Cardiac Manifestations of Thyroid Disease

A patient who presented to the Emergency Room with several cardiac complains will be presented. A differential diagnosis will be generated and the workup discussed. The manifestations of thyroid disease on the cardiovascular system will be illustrated and the management of cardiovascular complications of thyroid disease will be treated.

Target Audience
This activity is intended for medical professionals who have a clinical interest in thyroid disorders as seen in the following medical specialties: endocrinology, primary care (IM, FP, GP), obstetrics/gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics, laboratory medicine, nuclear medicine, ophthalmology, neurology, psychiatry, and sleep medicine.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  1. Recognize common and uncommon cardiovascular manifestations of thyroid disease.
  2. Plan the workup when thyroid disease is suspected.
  3. Describe the specific therapies for managing thyroid related cardiovascular disease.
