This educational activity will introduce the learner to the pathophysiology of osteoporosis and the scope of the problem. Clinical risk factors, including thyroid dysfunction, will be discussed, as will methods to improve bone strength and prevent fractures. Case presentations will provide real-world examples.

This activity is intended for medical professionals who have a clinical interest in thyroid disorders as seen in the following medical specialties: endocrinology, primary care (IM, FP, GP), obstetrics/gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics, laboratory medicine, nuclear medicine, ophthalmology, neurology, psychiatry, and sleep medicine.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
1. Describe the risk factors that contribute to the pathophysiology of osteoporosis.
2. Explain the need to begin treatment for Osteoporosis.
3. Explain how to assess the effects of treatment.
